Djanan Ismail, Senior Partner
Djanan qualified in 1990 and started the practice in 1993, initially as a sole practitioner and then partnership with Kumar Subramani in May 2005. A civil litigation solicitor, with a very wide range of experience in all aspects of civil litigation, including all aspects of commercial and non commercial litigation. An LSC accredited Supervisor with experience in Housing, Consumer and Debt law she has an extensive knowledge of litigation, its law and practice. The firm prides itself for being a niche and specialist practice in both legal aid and commercial law. Our policy is to advise clients to the best possible outcome for their case as cost effectively for them as possible, we believe that we provide a first class service at reasonable rates.
As well being the founder member of the law practice, Djanan was also one of the founder members of the legal software company, DPS now one of the top 100 software packages used by solicitors and accredited by the Law Society. Djanan designed and created the original layout for the civil litigation, matrimonial and criminal packages. She has also been extensively involved in its copyright protection and has experience in many aspects of copyright litigation.
Unlike many other firms Ismail & Co still offers legal aid for Housing , Debt and consumer/contract and this is due in large to the originating ethos of the firm which is to endeavour to provide a first class service not only to those that can afford it but for those who cannot.

Kumar Subramani, Solicitor, Partner
Kumar qualified as a Solicitor in 2003 and has a Masters degree in International Trade law from Newcastle University. He joined Ismail & Co in the year 2004 and by year 2005 he became a Partner of the firm. He started a highly successful Commercial and Residential Property as well as Business Immigration departments at Ismail & Co. He has considerable experience in dealing with all aspects of Commercial Property including substantial acquisitions and disposals both freehold and leasehold, acting for a wide range of investors and developers as well as businesses with multiple properties. He further has first hand experience in various offshoots of Property work including Commercial & Civil Litigation, Licensing and Landlord & Tenant disputes.
Kumar further specialises in Corporate Immigration work acting for individuals as well as Companies, Colleges & Universities under the old immigration rules as well as under various Tiers of the new Points Based system.
Kumar is also a qualified Advocate in India and have practised in that Jurisdiction for 4 years specialising in Civil & Company law before qualifying in England & Wales. He has considerable knowledge and experience in advising UK based clients on setting up companies, businesses and buying assets in India and vice versa. He further acts for many Indian based companies investing in the United Kingdom.

Sharina Salam, Assistant Solicitor
Sharina is a Housing Solicitor who qualified in 2003. Sharina previously worked in legal aid practices and trained at a Law Centre which catered for under privileged clients.
As an experienced Housing Solicitor she is able to deal with a wide range of housing cases including disrepair, possession proceedings based on rent arrears and other grounds, anti-social behaviour, nuisance cases, illegal eviction and other causes of action including Judicial Reviews under Legal Aid now referred to as Public Funding Certificates and in cases that involve litigation or advice and assistance under the Legal Help and Help at Court Scheme.
An efficient and hard working legal aid lawyer, Sharina has been responsible for many important successful Housing Appeal and Judicial Review cases.

Sonia Robinson, Assistant Solicitor
Sonia started her legal profession with the Department of Social Security as a Fraud Officer and later as a Senior Housing & Rent Recovery Manager with the London Borough of Hackney, in their Housing & Legal Department.
She graduated with a LLB (Hons) in Law at Birkbeck College, University of London, followed by the Post Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice at the BBP School of Law in Holborn London. She also took a specialist post graduate diploma in Sports Law at Kings College, University of London. Sonia initially joined Ismail & Co., Property Department in May 2008 and then returned in June 2010 following a brief Partnership role at a high net worth firm, also practicing in Employment, Family, Residential Landlord & Tenant Law, together with Wills & Probate Law.
Sonia takes a keen interest in political and current affairs, reading Shakespearian, Elizabethan and post Word War I & II literature and enjoys period dramas. She is also a qualified Royal Society of Arts (RSA) Fitness Instructor and Hair Stylist who enjoys participating in athletics, swimming and is a keen Chelsea FC and F1 Grand Prix motor racing supporter.

Mahir Gul, An Accredited Police Station Representative and Criminal Caseworker
Mahir GÜL studied Law and European Studies at University of Surrey and obtained a LLB Law and European Studies degree. He then went on to do his Legal Practice Course at the College of Law in Guildford.
Mahir joined Ismail and Co Solicitors in August 2010 as an Accredited Police Station Representative and a Criminal caseworker. Mahir has extensive experience representing clients at the police station and preparing criminal cases for both Magistrates and Crown Court. Mahir has also had training in Family law and Immigration law.
Mahir has been studying LLM in International Law and Practice at the College of Law in London (Bloomsbury) as a distance study.
In addition Mahir stood as a local government candidate for the Seven Sisters Ward in the London Borough of Haringey in London Local Government elections in May 2010. He is fluent in Turkish.
